FAQs
  • What is the surface-to-core hardness difference in ALLSTAR forged steel grinding balls?
    Created with Sketch.
    形状 Created with Sketch.
ALLSTAR forged steel grinding balls are manufactured using an advanced automated heat treatment process, including secondary quenching and high-temperature tempering, to achieve a uniform hardness gradient from surface to core.
For large-size SAG mil grinding balls (100mm–150mm), ALLSTAR controls the surface-to-core hardness difference within 2 HRC. The surface hardness can reach 58–65 HRC, while the core hardness remains ≥56 HRC.
This optimized hardness distribution ensures excellent wear resistance throughout the entire service life of the grinding balls, maintaining dimensional stability and reducing deformation during high-impact grinding operations.
  • How does ALLSTAR ensure ultra-low breakage rates (<0.5%) in high-impact SAG mills?
    Created with Sketch.
    形状 Created with Sketch.
ALLSTAR forged steel grinding balls are designed for demanding SAG mill and primary grinding applications where impact resistance is critical.
We use carefully selected steel grades produced through electric arc furnace refining and micro-alloying technology, with optimized Cr-Mo element balance to improve toughness and reduce internal stress.
Each batch is evaluated through laboratory impact performance testing, including 10,000+ drop-ball fatigue impact tests, ensuring excellent resistance against breakage under severe operating conditions.
With superior toughness and internal structural integrity, ALLSTAR grinding balls help reduce ball breakage, protect mill liners, and improve overall grinding efficiency.
  • Should I choose Forged Steel Balls or High-Chromium Cast Balls for my cement plant ball mill?
    Created with Sketch.
    形状 Created with Sketch.
The selection between forged steel grinding balls and high chromium cast grinding balls depends on the mill type, grinding conditions, and operating environment.
For cement plant ball mills, especially fine grinding chambers, ALLSTAR recommends high chromium cast grinding balls due to their excellent wear resistance, abrasion resistance, and resistance to spalling under dry grinding conditions.
For mining applications, including SAG mills and primary ball mills with high-impact wet grinding conditions, forged steel grinding balls are generally preferred because of their superior toughness and impact resistance.
ALLSTAR provides professional grinding media selection based on your mill size, ore characteristics, and operating parameters.
  • Can ALLSTAR supply corrosion-resistant grinding media for acidic gold ore slurry (pH 3.5–4.5)?
    Created with Sketch.
    形状 Created with Sketch.
Yes. ALLSTAR can provide customized grinding media solutions for challenging environments, including acidic ore slurry applications.
Based on factors such as slurry pH value, ore characteristics, and grinding conditions, ALLSTAR can optimize alloy composition and heat treatment processes to improve corrosion resistance and reduce the combined effects of electrochemical corrosion and mechanical wear.
This helps customers achieve lower grinding media consumption and more stable mill performance in wet grinding operations.
  • What mill test reports and quality certifications do you provide with each shipment?
    Created with Sketch.
    形状 Created with Sketch.
Every shipment of ALLSTAR grinding media is supplied with complete quality documentation, including:
    Mill Test Certificate (MTC)
Chemical composition analysis by Optical Emission Spectrometer (OES)
Surface and core hardness test reports
    Hardness gradient test results

    Dimensional inspection records
ALLSTAR manufacturing facilities are certified with ISO 9001 Quality Management System, ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, and ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System.
Third-party inspections from internationally recognized organizations such as SGS and Intertek are also supported upon client request.
  • How do you prevent internal defects like porosity, shrinkage, or cracks in cast and forged balls?
    Created with Sketch.
    形状 Created with Sketch.
ALLSTAR applies strict process control to ensure dense internal structures and reliable grinding media performance.
For forged steel grinding balls, advanced forging processes with optimized forging ratios and automated forming technology help eliminate internal defects and improve material consistency.
For high chromium cast grinding balls, ALLSTAR uses refined melting processes, controlled pouring temperatures, and metallurgical inspections to ensure uniform microstructure.
Each production batch undergoes quality inspection, including metallographic analysis, to verify internal integrity and performance reliability.
